The computer in question is most certainl a Prosignia 486DX2-66.

I was able to tell the chip set because during the installation i tried all chipsets that were supported. The only one that seemed to make anything happen was the NCR.

I then looked at the mother board and found a chip labelled NCR53C710.

I was autoprobing when trying to sort out the card because i only now its irq.

In the SCSI howto dated 1996, is there a later one(?) it says that to support the NCR53C710 there are only trivial changes that need to be make to the existing drivers. However i have not been able to find the new driver - i have limited net access.

If its not around yet maybe we could convince the hardware programmers to do something about it. It seems that theres quite a few of us that have this machine and would really like to be able to run linux on it!

Thanks for replying, its good to know that others are trying to achieve the same thing.
