Hi,

I have an Exabyte 8mm tape drive. The linux kernel is able to
recognize it at boot time but I am unable to access the files in the
tape. I get "no device block found" when I try to read /dev/st0,
/dev/nst0, or /dev/rst0. Does anybody know how I can read the tape?
I realize that I can not mount the tape since it does not have a file
system.

FYI:

The tapes are written in tar format using SGI's with Irix OS. The
tape block size is 63.5KB, which translates to a blocking factor of
127. My linux was installed with redhat 4.2 (kernel version 2.0.32).
I have no problem running external Jaz Drives from linux.

Thanks very much in advance.

Sunnia Lin
