I enjoy it to try out the new development kernel 2.1 with SMP. But
sometimes I get an Error message:
"kernel panic: aic7xxx_queue: Couldn't find a free SCB."
Then the system hangs and I have to reset the machine.
My hardware: board: Tyan Tomcat IV Dual with two Intel Pentium
Processors(200MHz)
SCSI-Adapter: adaptec AHA 2940 A Ultra
disks: 2x IBM, 1GB, 1x Quantum Fireball, 2.1 GB, 1x Quantum 4.3 GB, 1x
Toshiba CD-ROM (all SCSI )
My kernel configuration: SCSI low level driver aic7xxx enabled.
SCB-paging: enabled or disabled (doesn't help)
max. Commands per LUN: 8 (or 4 or 2 or 12) (I tried out many values, but
nothing helped)
tagged command queuing: (enabled or disabled) (doesn't help)
But now: If I disable the SMP option (Comment out the line "SMP=1" in
the Makefile),
everything works fine with no errors. But so I can use the power of only
one processor.

The problem often occurs if I have many traffic on the SCSI bus(all
disks simultaneously accessed).
At lower traffic on the bus the kernel may work for about an hour WITH
both processors- - -
- - until the next crash.

Many thanks and greetingss from Hagen, Germany
Rafael Koenig.
