Hmm, ok, if a bad sector was found and could not be remapped, you should
have seen an error b4. Now, at some point a thing starts breaking, so in
theory it could be hardware was ok b4 and now broke, but just as you it
seems not likely to me.
Still, while looking at it, you could check if enough spare sectors are
available and take actions for the future.
Well, obviously I missed the start of the thread. You mention SMP, I heard
about several SMP/scsi problem depending on controller hardware in use.
You could try running a non SMP kernel (on a single proc) and see if the
problem persists (if you are running more than two right now). Also you
should seek assistance of the linux-smp list on vger, they should at least
know if there are known problems with controller/kernel version you use.
I, myself, have no SMP or SCSI experience beyond my 174x so I should
better step back from that thread and open the place for the other
experts.
