I'm having a problem with a SCSI DAT drive, which is causing backups
to fail.

System: Linux 2.0.27, Intel Pentium Pro, Adaptec AIC-7871, HP35470A.

The info from the log file is:

Feb 25 03:00:01 server kernel: Detected scsi tape st0 at scsi0, channel 0, id 5, lun 0
Feb 25 03:00:01 server kernel: st: Buffer size 32768 bytes, write threshold 30720 bytes.
Feb 25 03:00:01 server kernel: st: Can't allocate new tape buffer (nbr 0).
Feb 25 03:00:01 server kernel: No tape buffers allocated at initialization.
Feb 25 03:00:01 server kernel: st: Can't allocate new tape buffer (nbr 0).
Feb 25 03:01:01 server kernel: st: Unloaded.

Everything has worked fine for several months now, but in the past few
weeks the problem has started to occur intermittently. Sometimes it
works, sometimes it doesn't.

Nothing about the system has changed recently.

Is this a known problem, and is there a solution?

[NB: please reply directly if you have any information]
