That basically means that the checksum algorithm on that device works on
144 bit chunks. Probably you can deduce that it can correct one wrong bit
every 144 bits or something. Or it means you can correct 144 consecutive
failing bits (hmm?!). I'd have to look up the exact phrasing in the SCSI
specs, but generally THIS should not be anything to worry about in your
situation. It is probably quite ok.
When the setup worked with the older AHA driver flawlessly, and now
fails w/o any hardware modification, probably some new problem was
introduced in the new version.
Probably you should fall back to the older kernel and see if the problem
vanishes again. Then in contact with the AHA driver authors, add the
aha2940 mods one by one to isolate the problem.
