I have a EXB-8505 (EXB8700 model) drive, connected via a AHA-2940 SCSI controller running under Linux 2.0.32, with no problems to speak of. It once threw a SCSI bus error, but that was isolated and after a number of tests and confusion on my part. Otherwise it has been a stellar performer, much better than other tapes I have had in the past. I have heard that a lot of newer Adaptec cards have some support issues under Linux. I imagine the problem is in the SCSI card and not the drive. So, at least I can say that there are not compatiblity problems between the EXB-8505 and Linux that I have hit.
