A few weeks ago, I wrote a note here asking for help with SCSI lockups I
was having when I accessed my Plextor 4Plex CD-ROM drive after a long
period of inactivity.

The problem was, as most of you suspected, a firmware bug in my Plextor
drive. Felix Nemirovsky, an Engineering Manager at Plextor, sent me
the following in email:

> The 1.23 was an unreleased version and you must have gotten one of
> about 50 drives that shipped that way. Sorry.

Those of you who own a PX-4XCH should probably check your firmware
version. Especially if you bought yours from Computer Discount Warehouse
in March. :) If you do have version 1.23, call Plextor at 800-886-3935.
They gave me a free upgrade kit with no hassles and it arrived in the mail
three days later. Since I installed version 1.24, I've had no more lockups.

Thanks again for all your help.

Mark
