Hi everybody!
I've been trying to solve this problems for several week now, went
through all the concerned HOWTOs, but it's just too hard to solve
for me:
I have a laptop with Adaptec SlimSCSI 1460, SyQuest, CD-ROM 8X.
Under Windows verything works, and is recognized fine.
Under Linux Kernel 2.0.32, when at boot the SCSI is probed (just after
the PCcard services are installed), the controller is found, the
SyQuest is found, but no CD-ROM are detected. If I take off the
SyQuest, the controller is detected, but then uninstalled, since no
hosts are detected (ie the CD-ROM is not seen).
What I already tried:
- Test the cables & terminator settings (I'm using the genuine adaptec
cables that work fine with other devices).
- Recompiled the kernel to make sure that all SCSI support is installed.
- Rescan the SCSI bus after boot.
- Add on the fly to the SCSI bus via /proc/scsi/scsi the CD-ROM
specifically.
None of these seemed to give life to the device. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Balazs
PS:
the commands I tried:
# echo "scsi add-single-device 0 0 4 0" > /proc/scsi/scsi
# mount /dev/scd0 /cdrom
mount: the kernel does not recognize /dev/scd0 as a block device
(maybe `insmod driver'?)
Only once I've been able to mount a CD-ROM, and I've never been
able to reproduce the experiment.
