Hi, I'm having strange problems with an Adaptec 1542B and 1542C. A
friend of mine graciously let me these cards to try with my Ciprico 6600
RAID array.
I've been using a Adaptec 1522A to drive the array before and it has
been operating very well - Not a flaw, except that it slows down the
machine on mass transfers (Yeah... want to upgrade PIO to DMA :)
The weird thing: When I used the 1542B and C, I can mount the drive
read-only and I can read the drive without any trouble. Once I try to
mount it read/write, the driver and ext2fs pukes with all sorts of
different warnings, mostly dealing with reading off the end of the drive
(I think) or a bad sector address/bad sectors. Very weird! It almost
seems like an ext2fs error, but it doesn't look like it!
Things I've tried: changing the settings on the board (no help), trying
smaller and other devices (small drives (80MB Seagate) and tapes
(EXB8200) seem to work fine), messing with termination (no help),
messing with BIOS configs (no help).
