Hi -

We have been trying to connect a Melco (Konica) MO to a Sparcstation 5
running Redhat Linux 4.2, kernel version 2.0.30. However, when this
MO is connected to the SCSI chain, even though the drive is recognized
by the SCSI driver as being a removable optical disk drive, shortly
after this point there is a string of 'gross errors' on esp0 and the
boot process does not continue further.

We tried doing the following things to try to solve this problem, all
without success:

 - changed the SCSI id of the drive
 - changed the physical position of the MO drive in the SCSI chain
 - tried booting with 540 and 640 MB media, and also without any
    media in the drive
 - tried formatting the disk contents with MSDOS partitions
 - applied the patch for the Fujitsu MO 2KB block size
 - rebuilt the kernel with various combinations of SCSI support
    selected

If anyone out there knows something that we can fix this problem,
or any other ideas for us to try, please mail me. Thanks,

Brian Hooper
