SCSI Problems

I'm trying to add SCSI drives to my IDE Linux box. I have an old Iomega
PC800 SCSI card (NCR 53c400 chip) set to 0x280 and IRQ7. The boot command
(now an append in lilo.conf) is ncr53c400=0x280,7. The drives I'm adding
worked just fine when I ran bench tests on them before putting them in the
box, and the cable I'm using (internal connections) has worked in
Macintosh, IBM PC, Sun, and DECs. When I start the heads home and it sits
quietly spinning, but once the SCSI autoprobe and sundry commands go by
the drive access light locks on and I can't seem to convince it to talk to
me. The kernel (2.0.31) is compiled with 53c400 support, but I had to
take the additional commands out to keep it from hanging on bootup at the
SCSI probe. I need ideas badly :)
