I've been able to install a RedHat 4.2 (2.0.30) system on a server box
that has 4 Pentium Pro 200's and redundant Adaptec 2940UW adapters. But
the last time I built the kernel for it, something changed enough to
cause the aic7xxx initialization code to go into a loop. It resets the
first adapter, detects the attached devices (2 disk drives, and a CD,
and the cross-over device to the other adapter), then resets the second
adapter. Once that finishes, it can't find any partition blocks, on any
drive. It then goes into a loop resetting both adapters....
I've tried various patches for the aic7xxx driver, but so far I haven't
been able to get one that clears up the problem. The only way I've been
able to use the machine is by booting a 2.0.29 kernel..
Is this problem familiar to anyone? (Help???)
