Scanner Recommendations...

Sorry if this is not the proper list for this question, but it
seemed the most appropriate place (since most scanners connect to the
computer via SCSI).
Anyway, the question... I am looking for recommendations for a low
to mid range flatbed scanner to use with Linux. My previous scanner, a
Umax S6-E, met with an untimely death (blown capacitor), and I need to
replace it with something that is relatively equivalent to it. I am looking
on this as an opportunity to buy a scanner that is more compatible with
Linux than my Umax was, but I have not found a whole lot about scanners
and Linux.
Most of what I have heard are alpha and beta drivers for this
scanner and that scanner, but never any scanner with real, working
drivers (save HP's which are a bit out of my price range). Since I am
buying a new scanner, I want to make sure this one is as compatible with
Linux as possible.
So, what recommendations can people out there make? In brief, what
I am looking for is a 300x300dpi, color, flatbed letter sized scanner,
compatible with Linux and in the $150 to $200 price range. Oh, and its
interface to the computer either needs to be via the Adaptec 2940 PCI
SCSI card I already have, or a bundled (ISA) card that is compatible with
Linux. I have seen scanners from MicroTek (sp?), Epson, Umax, etc... that
meet all those requirements, but the Linux compatibility issue, and the
SCSI interface part, as far as I can tell.
Thanks in advance for any advice any one can give me.
