I have had some reports that the fixed Stratus firmware is not
sufficient to resolve all the problems, particularly in systems
with multiple Stratus drives, so you may also need to limit the
queue depth used with the drive by booting with the kernel command
     line "BusLogic=0,7".

Is this true for Tempest drives also? I am going to buy two of them,
together with a BT-948 card. If Tempest drives are also affected,
does the workaround you suggest impair performance so much that I'd
better block the order and look for some other hard disk brand?

The Tempests appear to operate correctly with the 301B firmware. Neither the
Tempest nor the Stratus drives have a very good implementation of tagged
queuing, so limiting the queue depth won't have much effect on performance.
