Servus all,

I'm a little bit confused about the configuration of my Adaptec
AHA-2940UW. When purchasing this adapter, my dealer told me to enable the
Extended Translation in the SCSISelect in order to allow that DOS
to use the full 2 GB ... and my Linux should also run fine, he said.
I have installed DOS on the first 502 MB of each HDD (1 WD 4.2GB UW,
1 Quantum Atlas 2.1GB W). Everything higher is Linux.
And everything ran fine until now.
When I try to install a brandnew version of linux, the installation
will fail by several reasons (I'm workin' on it) but mostly when creating
the file system...

Today I looked in to adaptec's FAQ site where I found the following:

UNIX Frequently Asked Questions (p4 of 17)
   Q. I am installing SCO UNIX on a SCSI hard disk that is larger than
one gigabyte. Should I enable the Extended Translation in the Advanced
   Configuration Options of SCSISelect?
   A. No. [snip]...
... Disable the Extended BIOS Translation feature even if your drive
or drives are less than 1 Gb.

   Q. How do I install MS DOS and SCO UNIX on the same drive?
   A. Extended BIOS Translation must be disabled [snip]...

About the same I was reading in a Linux MINI HOWTO.

So here my questions:
Could that Extended BIOS Translation be the reason for some failures?
Should I disable it (and if so, why) or not?
