Hi everybody,

I am stuck with a problem related to a HP Surestore 12000e
tape drive and DDS tapes of 90m and 120m length.

In principle the drive should support DDS1 and DDS2 tape and
this has been working for some time. But recently I am getting
problems to access data on an 90m if I have been using 120m tapes in
between. After power cycling the tape drive I am again able to read
data from 90m tapes until the next 120m tape has been loaded.

My configuration looks like this

Kernel: Linux lx_kec 2.0.30 #1 Wed Jun 4 18:30:04 MET DST 1997 i586

Adaptec AIC7xxx driver version: 4.008/3.2
Compile Options:
  AIC7XXX_RESET_DELAY : 15
  AIC7XXX_CMDS_PER_LUN : 16
  AIC7XXX_TAGGED_QUEUEING: Enabled
  AIC7XXX_PAGE_ENABLE : Enabled
  AIC7XXX_PROC_STATS : Disabled

Adapter Configuration:
SCSI Adapter: Adaptec AHA-2940A Ultra SCSI host adapter
                        (AIC-786x chipset)
              Host Bus: Single
               Base IO: 0xe000
        Base IO Memory: 0xf9800000
                   IRQ: 10
                  SCBs: Used 6, HW 3, Page 8
            Interrupts: 164112
         Serial EEPROM: True
  Extended Translation: Enabled
        SCSI Bus Reset: Enabled
            Ultra SCSI: Disabled
     Target Disconnect: Enabled

I suppose my problem has something to do with my software
(driver) configuration. I am using the June release of the AIC7xxx
driver since I was experiencing tape lockup problems with older
versions of this driver.

Can any kind soul explain what is happening here.

Cheers,
