I've a Quantum Fireball hard disk with a NCR53c875 Host controller.
This disk is very low in performance, hdparm report ~4,5 Mb/s :-((!
Do you know if changing the firmware will change the performance ?

No, I'm afraid that new firmware is unlikely to help the performance. The
Fireball line is their low end and has a lousy SCSI controller. The EIDE
Fireballs perform much better than the SCSI ones because of this.
