I am using the Apr20 release of the aic7xxx driver. I have an MD striped
raid consisting of nine IBM DORS31260 disks distributed across three
2940UW adapters. Dual P6, 82450GX, 128MB. On linux versions 2.1.36 to
2.1.41, I can't run more than 5 passes of Bonnie; I get a hang in kernel
routine wait_for_page(). The Bonnie process is hung, but the remainder of
the system is just fine. I can kill off Bonnie and all is well. It seems
as though an interrupt was lost. I am pretty certain that I have proper
cabling, this problem never occured with 2.1.29 or lower. I would love to
have a clue as to how to debug this. Depending on the position of the
file, I have gotten as much as 36MB/s R and 40MB/s W via Bonnie. Another
oddment is in the status from /proc
max1-17:/proc/scsi/aic7xxx# ls
1 2 3
max1-17:/proc/scsi/aic7xxx# cat 1
Can't find adapter for host number 1
max1-17:/proc/scsi/aic7xxx# cat 2
Can't find adapter for host number 2
max1-17:/proc/scsi/aic7xxx# cat 3
Adaptec AIC7xxx driver version: 4.007/3.2
Compile Options:
AIC7XXX_RESET_DELAY : 15
AIC7XXX_CMDS_PER_LUN : 16
AIC7XXX_TAGGED_QUEUEING: Enabled
AIC7XXX_PAGE_ENABLE : Enabled
AIC7XXX_PROC_STATS : Disabled
Adapter Configuration:
SCSI Adapter: Adaptec AHA-294X Ultra SCSI host adapter
(AIC-788x chipset)
Host Bus: Wide
Base IO: 0xcc00
Base IO Memory: 0xffbed000
IRQ: 9
SCBs: Used 27, HW 16, Page 255
Interrupts: 4385
Serial EEPROM: True
Extended Translation: Enabled
SCSI Bus Reset: Enabled
Ultra SCSI: Enabled
Target Disconnect: Enabled
All three adapters are sharing interrupt level 9. Only the external
connector is used. Both terminators are enabled. I have to run Bonnie on
1GB files before I see any problem.
