Hello,
I have a problem which relates to both SCSI and my tape drive so I sent
this message to both linux-scsi and linux-tape mailing list.
First of all my configuration:
Pentium 120
32MB RAM
id
Adaptec 2940UW 7
Seagate ST31200N 1.0GB HD synch 10MHz 0
NEC D3827 1.0GB HD synch 10MHz 1
Toshiba XM3401TA CD-ROM synch 4MHz 2
Syquest SQ3270S 270MB removable synch 5MHz 3
Conner CTMS3200 4GB (2GB native) synch 5MHz 6
and kernel 2.0.27 and 2.0.30
The speeds is what I got from the kernel-messages.
I added the tape-drive when I was running kernel 2.0.27. I started
making backups, first with TAR, then with Taper. About 2 weeks this went
flawlessly, then I started to get errors in mid-backup. (Error file as
attachment)
I upgraded my kernel to 2.0.30, but this was no help.
Scanning the newsgroups I read that the 2940 cards from Adaptec are not
that stable under Linux. Is this my problem? Why did it work for the
first 2 weeks then?
The tapes I use are QIC-Wide 3080 (Sony QW3080XLF). They were new when I
bought them and have been used about 10 times each now for making
backups.
Never had any problems with the disks, CD-ROM and Syquest.
Greetings,
Ringo
