Problem with Adaptec 2940 UA

I am having trouble when I try to backup to a scsi tape device.
The backup process locks, and I get an error in /var/adm/syslog:

Machine: compaq deskpro 575 overclocked to 90 Mhz.
SCSI disk is inside connected with flatcable
SCSI tape is external and has terminator.
Error occurs when backup up data on the SCSI disk.
Total backup size approx. 800kb
No other system malfunction known.
