Hi,

Trying to start using my new tape drive (Sony SDT-5200 DAT "Nice") and already
a couple of questions:

1) when compiling the kernel, I included scsi support and scsi disk support
(booting from a scsi drive) but left tape, cd-rom, and generic support as
modules. Is this the recommended way? In particular, does the tape module st
unload itself safely, i.e. after the tape is rewound?

2) Using the mt commands, I can't seem to erase the tape
--
mt -f /dev/st0 erase
--
seems to lock the drive and the device stays busy untill I reboot. Am I just
not suppose to erase the tape?

3) Are all DDS and DDS-2 Tapes formatted, i.e. no format is necessary?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

PS: teh drive is connected to a BusLogic BT-958. Running kernel 2.0.30 on a
PentiumPro system.
