There is a release of the aic7xxx driver at:

  ftp://ftp.pcnet.com/users/eischen/Linux/aic7xxx-2.1.26-May8.tgz

Many problems with the driver should now be fixed. If you have
a PCI adapter, you should try enabling support for SCB paging.
This will especially benefit 2940A[U] (7850/7860 based) controllers
with only 3 SCBs.

EISA/VLB (7770 based) controllers are now working again.

Please give this driver a try and report problems (and successes)
back to the aic7xxx mailing list (see drivers/scsi/README.aic7xxx).
Included in the test release is a README that tells you how to
use this driver under Linux 2.0.24+ as well as 2.1.5+ (only the
drivers/scsi/Makefile needs to be changed).

If there is a problem, please make sure you boot with the
verbose flag (aic7xxx=verbose). For people using auto termination
in SCSI Select Utilities, it is important to use this flag to
see how the driver detects and enables the termination settings.
It doesn't always detect and enable correct termination; a work
around is to manually set termination in SCSI Select Utilities.
