I build the kernel with SCSI as module. If I unmount all SCSI devices
(tryed it with CD, IOMEGA), and then unload SCSI, I can "hotplug" the SCSI
drive. I don't know if this is realy safe, but until yet I have not
observed any problem. This would perhaps avoid the boot process in your
cycle.
The disadvantage is, that no SCSI device will be usable in that time. But
I configured my PC in a way, that he can work witout SCSI.
