Did you try a kernel with compiled-in 53C400 support? You might also ask
Kevin Lentin (kevinl@cs.monash.edu.au) who wrote the extensions to the
generic 5380 driver. You might also want to read
/usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi/README.g_NCR5380 on your system (if you have an
unpacked kernel around).
