Thanks for the info.  I think I figured out what the problem was.  I was
reading from the CD in a loop, to test some problems with what I thought
was a bad motherboard (before I replaced it) and the CD got so hot you
would not believe :)

Kinda stupid, I guess.   THere must be better ways to test a bad scsi disk
and motherboard...
