Finally, it appears that Slackware 2.2 will install without a hitch if
*all 16M* of RAM is marked as non-cacheable and non-shadowable. Of
course, the machine is very slow in this configuration. Even marking
the lower 8M of RAM will not suffice, so I don't think this has
anything to do with timing errors isolated to the ROM addresses of the
PCI cards.
Many of you have remarked that similar problems on your machines were
cleared by disabling the cache. Was this your final solution? I.e.,
are you just making do without a cache? Or did this experiment lead
you to try new timing settings elsewhere in the BIOS, or even replace
the motherboard?
