BTW, Andreas Arens enhanced the 1740 driver to support more than one card
some time ago. I checked these patches for me (but don't have several
174x cards) but don't know into which kernel they went (probably one of
the 2.1 alpha's).
Still, although I dearly love my 1742, it was discontinued by Adaptec, so
if you have a newer machine you are probably better off with a state of
the art controller anyway (though I strongly distrust these credit card sized
custom signal processor SCSI controllers without any good builtin firmware
that pretend to be a full featured SCSI controller).
