Hi. I'm very new to SCSI, especially with Linux. I have a big
VLB controller with two SCSI connectors (50 pin), with an
Adaptec AIC-6360 chip, BIOS version 1.20L. (I get a message during
the BIOS messages about this.) I just bought an NEC 55JD cdrom drive.

I have the 152x driver compiled in the kernel. The host adapter
is detected, but it sits around for ages (about 2 minutes?),
the CDROM's busy light is on, and eventually I get lots of scsi
messages saying

"scsi: aborting command due to timeout : pid 5, scsi0, channel 0,
id 5, lun 0 0x00 00 00 00 00 00". And so on for id 6.
I have the drive jumpered for id 2, and have tried id 1 in the past
(which is how it came).

Any suggestions on how to fix this? I can't used /dev/scd0 after
all the messages, and "scsiinfo -l" says nothing, so I presume
there's a hardware problem. It's possible that the controller
is faulty; I errr bought it out of a junk basket for $5 .. :-)

thanks,

Hamish
