deactivated the drive ? 
Are you trying to boot of the jaz drive?
have you rdev the root partion to the new device?

try recompling the kernel it should only take about 15 mins.

Personally the only trouble I have with the Jaz/2940U combination is in
dos where I cannot read from my mitusmi cdrom.
