I'm preparing to load Red Hat 4.0. It will be a fresh install so I want
to keep some files. I am currently running Red Hat 3.0.3 upgraded to 2.0.21
with the SCSI tape a module and am using the ncr53c7,8xx driver. I used the
command:
tar cSpf /dev/st0 `cat /var/log/backup/files` --exclude /home/brtaylor/.backups
2>&1 >> /var/log/backup/log
After this command finished garbage was printed on my xterm killing it. I
found no problems and the tape appears ok. Today after printing dmesg for
another purpose, I found the following:
Out of memory for X.
Out of memory for klogd.
st0: Error on write filemark.
st0: Error with sense data: extra data not valid Current error st09:00: sns =
70 5
Raw sense data:0x70 0x00 0x05 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x3f 0x2c 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
None of this was sent to /var/log/messages probably due to the second line.
What, if anything, does this mean? Did the driver allocate a really big
buffer?
Thanks in advance.
Bob
