I've never heard of one on a PC, though some other machines have used
them in the past. The only type of machine that seems likely to use them
is an old-style laptop; they often had slightly weird peripherals,
supposedly to keep costs low.
Since virtually all new systems seem to ship with 8-bit ports, I doubt
there are many 2-bit ones out there.

I agree. I'd be happy to see two seperate drivers, but I don't think that
enough code will be shared between the two to make it worthwhile keeping
them in the same module.
What I *would* like to see is an 8-bit PLIP implementation, again as a
seperate driver. Does such a beast exist?
