Problem Negotiating Link

I am running kernel v1.1.54, ppp v2.1.2d, here is the command I use
to start my session:
pppd connect 'chat -v "" ATDTXXXXXX CONNECT "" ogin: USERNAME word: PASSWORD'\
/dev/cua0 19200 -detach debug crtscts modem defaultroute noipdefault
Everything seems to work fine with connecting and all, but then just before
it sets up the relay for traffic across the link, it hangs up. Here is
the debug output, if anyone out there can help me, Please do. I am very
frustrated at this point.
