Hello all,

I've just uploaded version 2.2beta1 of nfsd. I've added a couple of new
features, such as netgroups support and a bunch of security related
stuff. I'm appending the relevant part of the NEWS file below.

If no major bugs surface, I'll be releasing the final 2.2 to the general
public soon after minor style cleanups and README writing.

I must concede that there have been reports that 2.2 is slower than 2.0
and 2.1. I have not been able to confirm this, and others whom I have
asked to run their favorite benchmarks haven't been either (Thanks,
Holger). If you feel that 2.2 *is* slower, I'm interested to hear about
the tests you've run, and the numbers you obtained from it.

nfsd now supports uid mapping between hosts with different uid/gid
spaces. A word of warning is in order, though. If unprotected, ugidd
will let anyone obtain the complete list of user names on your system.
In order to limit access to this service, ugidd can be built with
support for the host.allow/deny scheme from Wietse Venema's tcp_wrapper.
You'll need a current version of libwrap.a to use this feature.

The FTP locations are:

  linux.nrao.edu:/pub/people/okir/nfsd/nfs-server-2.2beta1.tar.gz
  ftp.mathematik.th-darmstadt.de:/pub/linux/okir/nfs-server-2.2beta1.tar.gz

The MD5 checksum is:

  008a2a9322d0eff95b402eeefb7b0d9a  nfs-server-2.2beta1.tar.gz

Enjoy,
Olaf

[PS: When reporting bugs, please mail me at okir@monad.swb.de, and, if
possible, include a debug trace of the problem.]
-------------------- Changes from 2.0 to 2.2 ---------------------

* authenticate fh's on every request.
* Use setfsuid/setfsgid if available for setting owner/group on file
  access rather than seteuid.
* Implement root_squash and no_root_squash mount options. Note: root_squash
  is on by default, so you have to insert no_root_squash where appropriate
  or your configuration might break.
* New set of uid squash options: squash_uids, squash_gids (specify
  list of uids/gids to squash), all_squash, anon_uid and anon_gid
  (override uid/gid of anon user for specific clients).
* Uid/gid mapping using Mark Shand's ugidd.
* Different log levels for debugging.
* Manpages updated to reflect the current set of defaults.
* Netgroup support in /etc/exports.
* mountd now supports /etc/rmtab and showmount -a. (Written by Dariush
  Shirazi).
* export file re-reading with SIGHUP in nfsd and mountd.
* Support for multiple nfsd's running in parallel (read-only).
