Problem with linux 1.2.3

Hello,

Loaded linux 1.2.3 on 486 m/c with 16MB RAM.

when machine boots through linux it gives the message

uncompressing linux ... large kernel ....low 1M ... tight done

while booting it also cribs for

SIOCSIFADDR: no such device
SIOCSIFBRDADDR: no such device
SIOADDRT: network is unreachable

I am unable to ping any m/c on my network except 127.0.0.1 (localhost) 
Pls. let me know where is the problem.
