The current ones are compatible. Linux 1.0.x PLIP isnt compatible with anything,
and older PLIP.COM dos drivers use FD:FD:xx:... addresses which being a multicast
gives you working ping but not telnet.
Current one on ftp.crynwr.com uses 02:00:WW:XX:YY:ZZ, where
WW:XX:YY:ZZ is taken from the 32-bit tick counter.
