I have been using an Ethernet connection (with gateway to the Internet) without
problems (with RedHat 3.0.3 and Rembrandt).
But when I changed from a 486 to a Cyrix 6x86 P150+ the ne2000 Ethernet card
was not detected anymore.
After changeing the BIOS setup from 'auto' to 'manual' for IRQ 5
and adding an 'ether=...' line in lilo.conf, the Ethernet card is detected;
and 'ifconfig' reports eth0 again.
But ping on any IP adress (apart from localhost) fails.
netstat -i reports that packets are sent without error.
The 'Network Configuration' tool reports that 'static routes are currently
disabled'.
A 3C509 is detected even with the setup on 'auto', but ping fails in the same
way.
Using a slackware distribution gets the same results.
The new motherboard is a 430VX with an Award BIOS v4.51PG.
Any help is welcome,
Frederic
