   What software is running on the 386?  With that little ram, I'm assuming
   its not Linux?  I've heard that the crynwyr drivers are -not-
   compatible with Linux plip.... (but i might justas easily be wrong :)

They were...  then they weren't... and now they are again.  But the
11.0 Crynwr driver has a bug wherein it doesn't work on some parallel
ports.  Use <ftp://ftp.crynwr.com/pub/crynwr/plip.zip>.
