That is mixing apples and oranges a bit.
BGP is a inter domain routing protocol while (E)IDRP is an intra
domain routing protocol.
The standard intra domain protocol is OSPF which both Ciscos and gated
speak. Since it is a SPF protocol and not a distance vector protocol
(like RIP and (E)IGRP) it is believed to respond better to topology
changes.
