Boy that will be a big project. ( as if it isn't already ;-)

Can't say as I have a bug report, But maybe a question.

Background:

I have the gated-3_6Alpha2 sources & am running an Slackware
3.0.0(1.2.1?) system hand upgraded to 2.0.17 & the patches from
	ftp.redhat.com:/gated/.

When I un-tar the gated srcs it creates a dir gated-3_6Alpha2
when I apply the patch to the src's From inside the gated* dir
patch starts yelling at me to provide the names of each of the
	files to be patched.

If I create a NEW un-tared gated directory & apply the patches
from the dir that has gated-3_6Alpha2 in it, I get the
Linux-readme & the *.config in this dir & not the gated dir.

Neither seems to matter as the 'make config' shows some items
missing that it seems to want, one being 'kvm.c' which if my
research is correct is only available under SunOS/Slowaris .

If I ignore those missing items & do a 'make' I get compilation
	errors .

My Real question seems to be ARE the patches from ftp.redhat.com
-only- for the redhat distribution ?

> -there is no need for ELF-specific patches for gated (or any
> other sources): just use the right compiler/library set.

I have been compiling Bind-4.8 thru present 4.9.4p1 & just
found that there wasn't a way to make the '*resolv*'(can't
remember name) to be compiled ELf-Shared until "Tamas Nyitrai"
provide a set to myself & hopefully by now to "Paul Vixie" the
	Bind maintainer.

The question I asked was valid based on that information.

My next question is does the patched version of gated use all
	the Shared libraries ?

				Tnx , JimL
