Hello,
I have two Linux systems, both are identical HP Vectra VL3 5/100s
(except that one has 16M and the other has 8M). They were built from
Slackware 3.0.0. I was having problems with one of them at Linux
1.2.13 where it the ethernet was freaking out. I upgraded it to Linux
2.0.10, and it has been working fine until about a week ago. The
second one was still at 1.2.13 and on a WD80?? card, and would just
hang for 2-3 minutes every hour or so.
So now, both machines are at 2.0.10, both have Intel EtherExpress
cards, and both are still experiencing the hanging symptoms. Nothing
shows up in /usr/adm/messages, and it eventually comes back. Our lan
admin said that he noticed large number of retransmits while using a
sniffer, if this is any help.
Getting boot info from /usr/adm/messages since I have an unknown
PCI device and it scribbles over the the first lines. However, from
ifconfig:
eth0 Link encap:10Mbps Ethernet HWaddr 00:AA:00:29:23:3C
inet addr:153.72.198.189 Bcast:153.72.198.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:96209 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0
TX packets:17240 errors:0 dropped:48 overruns:0
Interrupt:10 Base address:0x300
So, if anyone could help me with this, even if just to get more
debugging info turned on, I'd appreciate it greatly. I can provide
more info if necessary. Please email me directly.
Thanks in advance,
Eric
