As of gated 3.6 Alpha 1, multicast support in gated for Linux (and
multicast support in gated in general) was listed as a "work in
progress". The end goal is for gated to be able to take over all the
functions of mrouted, but there is quite a bit of work to go yet.
The last time I messed with gated 3.6 Alpha 2, I was able to get igmp
but not dvmrp support to compile. Give it time, or, better yet if you
have some time, lend some help. :)
Alan Cox has said in the past something to the effect that some
reasons multicast support has lagged on his development priorities is
1) lack of wide spread interest, 2) lack of a good testing platform,
and 3) lack of people submitting fixes. Problem 1 seems to be fixing
itself, slowly. I've had contact with several people lately who
expressed interest in multicast support. This may lead to the
solution of 2. Now if we can find some more programmers with lots of
hardware (or give them access to some of our hardware), we may be able
to fix problem 3.
