I am not sure what causes it either, but with Redhat 3.03, ppp-2.2.0f,
and kernel 2.0.0 On both ends of a 28.8 k link, i get the exact same errors
i ended up haveing to put -bsdcomp in /etc/ppp/options, because it
falls over every time.
