It's not related to MTU discovery, it's a kernel bug. I've been
hounding about this problem for some time, and I got a note from Alan
Cox this morning. He's aware of the problem and is testing some
patches for it. If the patches work, he'll submit them to linux for
the next update.
Hang in there, hopefully a fix is coming!
