I always want to write that: MEE TOO!
Actually, for a friend of mine located in a business environment I've similar
needs. Of course, the Unix solution would be to run bootp on a linux/unix
server and hardcode a hardware address ip mapping there (at a single
point in your net). Linux machines could boot and I heard even of boot proms
that allow a full network boot of linux using bootp and tftp (and more).
However, this yields to the opposite problem: Is there a a bootp client for
DOS and/or Windows (and/or NT). A simple standalone tool that broadcasts
it requests in the net and returns the ip address found in a manner to be
used in a kind of script would serve my needs perfectly.
So, I'd like to hear about any answers on that topic too (be it DHCP for
linux or bootp for DOS/WIN/etc).
Regards,
Michael.
