I seriously doubt the accuracy of FTP stats in most implementations.
With 52 bytes of overhead (48 on a PPP link), how would you expect to 
get much more that that on a 56000 (not k, remember) medium? depends
on the packet size, I suppose, but through a gateway the packets are not
generally full MTU. 6.7k is the max with big packets, or is my 
calculator broken? thats why we dont use them.
