1.2.8 strange select/socket problem

I'm having strange problems with 1.2.8 patched with 1.3.0 + ipalias patches...
libc.4.6.27, gcc 2.6.3.

Everything has been working great (ne2000, ide+FD1680 scsi, telnet/rlogin, nfs
ftp, cern_http) but when reactivating inn, had problems with nnrpd.

When nnrpd is run at the shell (ie. tty stdin/stdout) it works fine, but
when run as a sub of innd (ie. 'mode reader' fork/exec), 'list newsgroups'
hangs at random places. When tracing the process, there is some garbage
on the stack (2-8 'end()''s with different addresses) then a function
waiting on 'select' then main.

Seems that there must be a race condition with select and a pusher of
continous data of some kind.

May try replacing library later and same setup on an unpatched 1.2.8.

Any suggestions, updates, etc.?
