PPP stops working?

Trumpet Winsock 2.0 PPP stopped working when dialing into my Linux system.
PPP tracing in Trumpet says "frame error". I've tried it with Linux
1.2.6 and 1.2.8. the old pppd and the new one with Al Longyear's patches.
I tried it with and without VJ compression enabled.
PPP continues to work with another Linux box. I haven't used Trumpet much,
and I was quite surprised when told it didn't work. I think I've outruled
any of the upgrades (new kernel, new pppd, pppd patches) as the cause, but
I can't be sure. Anyone else have Trumpet stop working?
