uugetty Hangs/Disappears on the modem line

Hello all!
I experience the following all the time since I have configured y Linux box
for modems:
I use uugetty to work on ttyS* lines for the modems since we have both
UUCP users and On-line users connecting via that lines.
But many times when I come to work in the morning I see that there is NO
UUgetty on that tty-line. Or maybe there is one but it is Hanged, so modem
does not work properly.
Who may suggest someting for this?
I have Slackware 1.2.8 and use Telebit 14400 modems.
Of course our local telephone line are working very badly but
the abovementioned problem makes work just IMPOSSIBLE. Every day I get
complains about it.
PLEASE HELP!
