A new version of our Linux Mobile-IP software (version 1.00) is
now available at http://anchor.cs.binghamton.edu/~mobileip. Among
other features, this release supports operation of a mobile host
on a foreign network even in the absence of foreign agents, e.g.
I am able to remove a portable computer from an ethernet LAN in
our Lab, drive home (five miles away) and reattach to the Internet
using PPP without disturbing any existing TCP connections! To the
best of our knowledge, it is the first publicly available IETF
compliant Mobile-IP implementation with such support.
As part of a graduate networking course taught in Spring 1996,
students at SUNY Binghamton have made changes to the Linux 1.3.58
kernel with the aim of supporting additional Mobile-IP features in
the future (e.g. encapsulation/decapsulation of broadcast datagrams,
selective disabling of ARP replies, a single software interface
instead of one tunl per mobile host). These changes have undergone
only preliminary testing but are available to interested individuals
for experimentation. Appropriate contact information is included
with each project report and these reports are available at
http://anchor.cs.binghamton.edu/~mobileip/Projects/
